The Season Ahead
Safety
First
As a club we are in
an enviable position; we have a fantastic clubhouse and
excellent equipment and outstanding safety record. My
job for this year is to maintain that safety record and
to adopt a proactive approach to new safety issues. As
all experienced divers know 90% of the potential problems
are sorted out before we enter the water by following
and adopting professional attitude to our training, equipment
and dive planning. If I were asked to give you advice
on safety for this season ahead I would say that keep
up the “professional attitude” that I have
witnessed in the club ever since I joined.
As a “blow in”
from another club and as a person who has dabbled in the
black arts of PADI (which I have the highest regard for),
I can say that the Curragh members have a lot to be proud
of, from 1* trainees to M4* there is a practiced professional
routine which does set them apart from other diving clubs
….. this can be exemplified by the way members carry
out their duties and responsibilities within the club
by;
-
Maintaining a level
of water fitness….which we achieve by regular
snorkels.
-
Maintaining our
equipment in perfect working order….our lives
and our buddies lives depend on it.
-
Continuing to increase
our knowledge of our sport…….for example:
regular and varied dives and further training.
-
Anticipating and
dealing with potential problems…..through experience
and a thorough buddy check before every dive.
-
Plan your dive
and……. you know the rest.
-
Being familiar
with the rules and regulations of CFT and the Curragh……they
are added to nearly every year!
-
They way we treat
club equipment… for example; careful and respectful
driving of the boats.
As custodian of this clubs safety record my job is going,
I know, to be a relatively easy one because of the work
done by the previous DO’s of the club and the attitude
of it’s members…
Safe and enjoyable diving…………
