Chairman’s Report 2004
Welcome to the 45th AGM of the Curragh Sub Aqua-Club.
2004 was a good year for the club, paradoxically it wasn’t
a vintage year for diving.
Membership continues to climb, this is in many ways due to the
high standards we have set in the club training, safety, enjoyment
and a warm welcome.
At the outset of the year, the committee decided to be very proactive
in terms of equipment maintenance, to this end much of the equipment,
compressors and engines were given full services by the appropriate
professional service agents, this was reflected in the almost
trouble free season. Problems that arose, were quickly professionally
dealt with.
Financially we decided on a year of consolidation, to enable
us to invest in the future, and the additional members contributed
to our healthy balance sheet, but will continue to place extra
demands on our resources.
We continued to train our own beginners and welcome people from
other diving organisations, this has been very beneficial in the
breath and depth of expertise available to us. We also decided
to invest in Nitrox equipment following the running of Nitrox
and Blending courses in the club.
The diving season was mixed with the weather having an impact
on a lot of activities.
I don’t want to pre-empt the individual officers reports,
so before I ask them to give their reports I would just like to
thank all the committee for the hard work and time that they all
give, all of which contributed to the successful year in the club.
I don’t want to single out any individuals, but I cannot
pass without singling (or doubling) all 2 of the committee who
in spite of domestic upheaval continued to perform their duties
admirably, Laeona who now splits her time between UK and Dublin,
and Elena who has moved to rural Ireland.
Finally, a word of warning, I had a meeting with a council official
and 2 consultants, regarding the clubrooms in the greater scheme
of the Dun Laoghaire Coastal Way.
I would like to thank all the members for their support during
the year and remember the season is not over yet.
John O’Connor,
CHAIRMAN.
