Summer Diving
As I write this intro, diving in the Curragh
is beginning to wind down after a very busy Summer. Plenty has
been happening in the club with great diving both in Dublin and
at the weekends away. The weather hasn't been as good as last
year but the viz in Sandycove up to mid August has been very good
with many a great dive being had from the clubhouse, Lady's Well,
The Muglins, Dalkey Island and especially the Guide Me II.
The weekends away have been very successful
with trips so far this summer to Belmullet (see April/May newsletter
for Mark Seavers article on that), Seafield Co Clare, Inishbofin
and Burtonport.
The Juniors have been snorkelling from the
clubhouse and have been taken on boat rides around Dalkey Island.
Elena Coyle has compiled a brief history of the Juniors section
of the club since it started in the early 1980's. Ronan Murphy
of the juniors has also written an article for this edition of
the newsletter.
Training has been ongoing all summer with
people preparing for various grades. Congratulations must go to
our two newly qualified M2s Niall and Siobhan who have worked
very hard this season and helped so many others achieve their
qualifications. Well done to our new club divers Brian Holland,
Orna McCarthy and Ronan Kelehan.
In this edition we have an article and plenty of photos from
Boffin including some photos of the up and coming 'Tiger Woods'
golfing in Bofin, the new Juniors section and a report from Gerry
O'Dowd about what's been happening with all the club's equipment.
We have photos from the BBQ that John and Cathy O'Connor hosted
in Loughshinny, Kevin St.John has written about his first visit
to Burtonport and Mick Moriarty gives us his memories of diving
in Kilkee in the 1950s and 60s.
Hope you enjoy the read.
