Words from the Chair,

Well the season is nearly over and some of us are still enjoying the diving. The majority of you have got to the West Coast this year and you have witnessed a remarkable change in Irish waters. 15 years ago one saw a Cray fish on nearly every dive in the Atlantic, 5 years ago no one saw a Cray fish, now I saw 10 on one dive some weeks ago. Also the fish… so many fish on every dive and of course the reason why is very simple.

We were in Ballycastle in Mayo during the summer and there was one small boat out fishing in the local bay. Years ago the Harbour was buzzing with boats and fishing activity. Achill earlier in the year had 2 fishing boats at work. So the balance of nature is occurring, the Sea was fished out to almost extinction, then the Fishermen went away and when they did the fish have recovered. I am torn now as to what to do, tell people what happens if the fish are given a chance or say nothing and it will be a while before the fisherman cop on and start fishing again.

I always look forward to the night Diving in September, its always good fun and with more life about, it has been even better this year.

Make the best of the 1 or 2 dives left in the Season and dive safely.
