NOTES FROM THE CHAIR |

What an early season with Easter Sunday on March 23rd! I thought we would shiver our way through Easter and re-appear in June, well not a bit of it, its all go with loads of diving activity. Of course that’s what we are about plenty of safe happy diving. The eagle eyed among you will have noticed a new 4stroke engine on the old Lencraft, Molly. Both Ribs now have new 4 stroke engines, the days of sickening engine fumes are now but history. The engines are much more silent and use about half the fuel of the old 2 stroke types. I know quite a number of people who gave up diving due to constant seasickness, the fumes we had to breathe from the old engine was a big contributor to the sea sickness. On the compressor side, we are still looking, costing and deciding as to what to do in the clubhouse. When a large group turns up, it takes hours to fill all the diving bottles More on this later. Gerry has a fabulous away diving programme drawn up for the remainder of the year. The success of the away trips is totally dependent on the help he gets from you. A small core of people does the majority of the work, so please do your bit to spread the load. At present most of our spare energy is going into organising the 50th anniversary Party and the Book and DVD for it. Friday 23rd of May Killney Castle a lot of people will be meeting up for the first time in a long number of years. Of course a founding member Mick Moriarty is in the thick of it with us all. He certainly was fitted with Duracell’s!!. We have 2 “liveaboard” boats almost filled for our 50th overseas trip. Guess its going to be a lot of fun with a Curragh group in Egypt that size, move fast if you want one of the last few places. If you have not got your tickets yet for the 50th Party please get them straight away before they disappear also. If there is any former member you know we might have missed out on please tell us about them. So safe and happy diving in 2008. Peadar
